Since 1949, the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) Fund has supported women from around the world in pursuing graduate studies in the United States and Canada. Since 1951, the IPS has also helped international students at Cottey College earn their degrees.
Today, the International Peace Scholarship Fund is available to:
- Women seeking advanced degrees from accredited colleges or universities in the U.S. or Canada
- International students enrolled at Cottey College
Benefits of the International Peace Scholarship for Women Scholars
The maximum amount awarded to a student through the scholarship is $12,500. However, smaller amounts may be granted based on individual financial need. Scholarships are not automatically renewable; recipients must reapply each year and compete for continued funding, provided they maintain strong academic performance and demonstrate continued financial need.
Eligibility Requirements
A woman is eligible to apply for the International Peace Scholarship if she:
- Is a citizen of a country other than the United States or Canada and is pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited university or college in the U.S. or Canada
- Intends to return to her home country after completing her studies to make a positive impact and contribute to global peace
- Has at least one full year of coursework remaining and will be enrolled and living in the U.S. or Canada for the entire academic year
- Is an international student currently studying at Cottey College
Applicants must be eligible for full-time graduate study at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. A copy of the official admission letter must be submitted with the application, clearly indicating the specific graduate degree program.
Ineligibility Criteria
The following individuals are not eligible to apply:
- Doctoral candidates who have completed their coursework and are solely working on their dissertations (first-time applicants only)
- Students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada (those with residency for tax purposes are eligible)
- Applicants enrolled in online programs, or those engaged in research, internships, or practical training not directly connected to coursework

The application deadline for the International Peace Scholarship for Women is December 15 annually.
